Bryant Park Picnic Performance

EMERGE125 will be performing this summer on August 20th with Paul Taylor Dance Company!

SAVE THE DATE!!

Entry to each show will require a free ticket, proof of full COVID-19 vaccination series OR a current negative COVID-19 test, and a matching government-issued photo ID. Attendees under the age of 16 will be allowed to register for a vaccinated ticket if accompanied by a fully-vaccinated adult.

Can’t make it to the show? The performances will be LIVE STREAMED thanks to Bryant Park’s partner, Bank of America.

The NY Times says:

“Tiffany Rea-Fisher, who also curates dance performances at the park, said her company has performed only twice in the last year. It will perform on Aug. 20 with the Paul Taylor Dance Company, and Rea-Fisher said it was not easy to find other dance groups that would be prepared.

“It was challenging, finding companies that were ready, stamina-wise,” she said. “You don’t want to bring dancers back after a year and have them hit a performance — it’s just asking for injury.”

But like others, she said was thrilled, “smiling ear to ear,” at the prospect of performing once again, and doing so in a prominent spot for New Yorkers.

“To be able to do what you trained for,” Rea-Fisher, said, “it’s so joyful, it’s so fulfilling; it feels sublime.””

Thanks to the generous support of Bank of America, nearly all of the events will be available for the public to livestream at no cost, significantly expanding the audience beyond the park.

The season opens on June 9 with a four-night run of shows by musicians from the New York Philharmonic and closes on September 20 with a 100th anniversary celebration of our beloved neighbor, The Town Hall. In between, don’t miss performances produced in partnership with Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, New York City Opera, Classical Theatre of Harlem, Joe’s Pub, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Limón Dance Company, National Sawdust, Harlem Stage with Jazzmobile and Historic Harlem Parks, Greenwich House Music School, New York Chinese Cultural Center, Music from the Sole, and more.”

The Emerging Artist Summer Series is a true extension of the company’s three main objectives: train, educate, and collaborate. This program will not only hone the participant’s body but also develop the dancer’s connection to their mind and soul. Attendees can look forward to the company’s unique emphasis on cross-training, by way of Pilates and H.I.I.T. classes, while simultaneously furthering their technical proficiency with dance classes of various genres taught by our diverse group of company dancers. We will dive into thought-provoking conversations by conducting Town Halls, Q&A sessions, and Wellness Seminars. We hope that participants will leave this experience feeling as though they’ve developed themselves as whole beings and not just moving vessels. The final product of EASS is an accumulation of learned repertory, composition projects, and site-specific workings inspired by each participant’s unique environmental surroundings.

Seize The King CTH 2021.png

With his country’s throne empty, Richard knocks down threats to his ascension, fueling his insatiable ambition and paranoia. Even if he can be stopped — who can ensure a tyrant won’t rise in his place? Award-winning playwright Will Power delivers a propulsive and timely modern reinterpretation of Shakespeare’s Richard III that the San Diego City Beat described as “a sharp, lyrical script that blurs the line between the past and the present, while positing that ambition and depravity are not the province of merely one king, one country or one moment in time.”

Set to premiere June 25th-27th, 2021!

In E-Moves Part 2, Tiffany Rea-Fisher and EMERGE125 pay homage to the Harlem Renaissance with Rights of Renaissance. After the performance, Tiffany joins award-winning arts writer, educator, and curator, Eva Yaa Asantewaa to discuss the piece.

Check out a preview of Rights of Renaissance

Still 2.png

Tiffany was commissioned by Harlem Stage to bring to life her vision for a new work celebrating three Black, Queer, Female playwrights, Alice Dunbar-Nelson, Mary Powell Burrill and Angelina Weld Grimke’. All three women were colleagues and early practitioners of a queer black feminist theater aesthetic at the turn of the 20th century. Rights of Renaissance examines our collective expectations of artists of determinable backgrounds and how our personal interpretations of their racial, sexual, cultural, and national heritage affect our openness to accept, consume, and reward their artistic expressions. The work also addresses the lack of Non-European history taught in schools. Touching upon issues of acceptance, race, gender, and sexuality.
