How I Became A Choreographer | Tiffany Rea-Fisher | Behind The Curtain

Go Behind The Curtain with Tiffany Rea-Fisher, Artistic Director and Choreographer. She is joined by Ty Jones (AD, CTH) for an in-depth discussion on how she became the prolific artist that she is today.

I feel about the way dance is taught that silences your voice. That you’re in a room with mirrors half naked being correct like, within an inch of an inch of an inch. That shuts down something in your soul. And so there are times when I’ll ask a young dancer what they think and they genuinely don’t have the answer because they’re scared. That critical thinking they have not been asked to think critically they’ve been asked to do what I do. They’ve been asked to mimic and stay quiet. And so for me as a teacher and as a director I’ve been on this tear to encourage dancers to work their voice like they would any other muscle in their body. To not have it be separate to not just be a good student.
