Juliane Slater,
Executive Director

Juliane (Julie) Slater is a nonprofit executive, arts administrator, and former professional dancer with more than fifteen years of experience leading finance, operations, governance, fundraising, and organizational strategy within the performing arts sector.

Julie currently serves as Executive Director of EMERGE125, a nationally recognized dance company based in Harlem, New York. She oversees the organization's strategic direction, financial management, fundraising, governance, and external relations, working closely with artistic leadership and the Board of Directors to advance the organization's mission and long-term sustainability. Since assuming the role in 2023, she has secured significant institutional support, strengthened financial infrastructure, established the organization's first operating reserve, expanded board engagement, and implemented systems that support organizational growth and impact.

Prior to joining EMERGE125, Julie held leadership positions at the José Limón Dance Foundation and ArtsPool, where she developed extensive expertise in nonprofit finance, budgeting, compliance, grant management, audits, and organizational development. Throughout her career, she has partnered with artists, funders, board members, and community stakeholders to strengthen mission-driven organizations and create conditions for artistic excellence to thrive.

Born and raised in Brazil, Julie began her professional career as a dancer before transitioning into arts administration and executive leadership. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from Faculdade de Artes do Paraná and a Master of Science in Dance Science from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Having lived and worked in Brazil, the United Kingdom, and the United States, she brings an international perspective to her work and a deep appreciation for the role of the arts in fostering connection, understanding, and community.

Julie is passionate about advancing equitable leadership and sustainable organizational practices that enable artists and arts organizations to thrive. Her experience spans artistic programming, education initiatives, fundraising, financial stewardship, governance, and organizational leadership. She believes deeply in the power of the arts to strengthen communities, build meaningful connections, and create lasting social impact.
