Tiffany Rea-Fisher will premiere Homecoming of the Unforgotten, an excerpt performed by artists of EMERGE125. Created in collaboration with vildwerk. and California Grizzly Alliance, the work tells the unfolding story of the movement to return grizzly bears to California more than a century after they disappeared from the state’s wildlands. Although the grizzly remains at the center of California’s flag and identity, no wild grizzlies currently live in the state. The California Grizzly Alliance—a coalition of researchers, Tribal leaders, wildlife advocates, land managers, and community members—is working to make their eventual recovery possible. Homecoming of the Unforgotten transforms this historic conservation effort into movement, asking audiences to imagine what it would mean to welcome an absent species home.
