John Brown Day

Thank you John Brown Lives! for awarding Executive Artistic Director Tiffany Rea-Fisher “The Spirit of John Brown Freedom Award!” This year marks the 100th Anniversary of the first “John Brown Day,” when Black leaders from Philadelphia made their first pilgrimage to lay a wreath on Brown’s grave. Tiffany is honored to be given an award that celebrates leaders in civil and human rights whose courage, creativity, and commitments are notably admirable. We are extremely proud of our leader and can’t think of a more deserving person to receive this award.

It’s completely accidental but it’s no accident,” JBL! Executive Director Martha Swan said. “These are three artists of tremendous conviction and talent who use their artistic gifts — powers — in the service of the community and their struggle for justice.
