Bill Terry is the principal of Terry & Associates, a consulting group that specializes in the management of not-for-profit arts organizations. Since its creation in 1985, Terry & Associates has worked with a variety of cultural organizations, as well as national arts service organizations, funders, and Federal and state arts agencies. The range of services includes organizational assessment and strategic planning, board and staff development, program planning and evaluation, constituent development (especially community engagement), fund raising, executive coaching, and retreat and meeting facilitation.

Clients served by Terry & Associates include the Afro Latin Jazz Alliance, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Chamber Music America, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, Elisa Monte Dance, Gateways Music Festival, Kurt Weill Foundation for Music, League of American Orchestras, Mark Morris Dance Group, National Endowment for the Arts, National Jazz Museum in Harlem, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, The Rockefeller Foundation, Victoria Foundation, Walker Arts Center, and the Woodruff Arts Center.  

In addition to the consulting clients, Terry has held senior management positions with the National Jazz Museum in Harlem, Harlem School of the Arts, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and the National Endowment for the Arts.  He has been a panelist and advisor for public arts agencies and private arts support organizations including the National Guild for Community Arts Education, National Endowment for the Arts, The Ford Foundation Center for Social Justice, and The Kennedy Center.

Terry received the Bachelor of Arts degree with high honors in music theory and composition from Yale University.

He is a member of the board of directors of the Bay and Paul Foundations.
